Where is the Bushman land?

The Bushman land consists of the biggest part of the northern Cape.  From Van Rhynsdorp to the West coast up to the Orange River all the way through Pofadder up to approximately Kakamas.  Our field is not as herby as the Karoo and most of our clients find the latter area's meat too "strong" in taste.

How are the animals treated?

We guarantee that all our lambs are hand picked, then taken to the abbatoir, certified and then hang in our butchery for at least 3 days at 4°C before being cut to our client's specifications.

How is the meat packed?

The meat is cut at between 4°C - 7°C then vacuum packed and frozen for our residential clients and cooled to ± 3°C for our catering and restaurant clients.

What is the difference between our lamb and normal over the counter lamb?

First of all we do not work with lambs less than 22kg except on specific orders.  Where usually over the counter lambs  normally weigh between 16kg - 20kg.  All our cuts of lamb are thus bigger.  To accomplish our bigger lambs we have asked our producers to leave them in the field for longer.  This means you get more matured and substantially tastier meat.  our lamb is also leaner and thus healthier.  The biggest difference is that our lambs are 100% organic.  They do not receive any growth hormones or antibiotics like most feeding stock do. Our animals are also 100% free range but are protected against predators at night and are herd in "kraals" from dusk to dawn.

I am either single or don't have enough space in my freezer.  Do I have to order a full lamb?

Not at all!  We realize that everybody's needs are different so we offer full lamb, half a lamb and quarter lamb.  You can also specify how thick the chops must be cut or if you want both legs whole or not or any specific requests you might have.

The purchase of half-a-lamb offers you the versatility of all the different cuts as well as an opportunity to save.  Since every single piece of meat can be used, nothing goes to waste.

Buying half-a-lamb makes sense if you have a freezer and can plan portion sizes.  Lamb can be frozen raw or cooked.  By deboning some of the larger cuts such as the leg of lamb, it not only saves freezer space, but also offers interesting variations on everyday cuts.  Our special vacuum packed lamb and beef can successfully be frozen for 6-12 months.

Do you only do lamb?

Initially we focused on only lamb but our clients need told us to start investigating beef as well.  The Bushman land is primarily sheep area and could not give us the quantities we required.  We source all our beef from the Vryburg area and surrounding Kalaharie .  All our beef is also 100% organic and free range.

Lately we also supply whole chicken and chicken portions of very high quality.

Why recommend buying in bulk?

The most important reason for buying in bulk is price related.  The per kilo price of half a carcase or a whole carcase is usually much lower than the accumulated price of all the individual cuts.  Apart from this, bulk purchases are also offered at special prices.  It saves you money and is economical to buy large quantities of meat at one time.

And what about a family of 2, 3 or 4 persons only?

Ask around.  Often a friend or a member of the family has the same problem and would gladly share.
